Therapeutic Methods
A Tailored, Integrative Approach
Dr. Xiques-Prieto draws on a range of evidence-based and integrative methods, always tailoring her approach to the individual. No single technique fits every person or every concern.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
EMDR
EMDR is a structured, evidence-based therapy developed to help people process distressing memories and experiences. During EMDR sessions, the therapist guides the client through bilateral stimulation — often eye movements — while the client briefly focuses on a troubling memory. Over time, this process can help reduce the emotional charge of difficult memories and support the development of healthier perspectives. EMDR is recognized by major health organizations as an effective approach for trauma and PTSD, though individual results vary.
Clinical Hypnotherapy (ACht)
Hypnotherapy
As an Approved Consultant in Hypnotherapy (ACht), Dr. Xiques-Prieto may incorporate hypnotherapy as a complementary tool. This approach uses a focused, relaxed state of awareness to help clients access inner resources, reduce anxiety, and work through deeply held patterns. Hypnotherapy is used alongside other therapeutic methods, not as a standalone treatment.
Intentional Breathwork
Breathwork
Intentional breathing practices can help regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, and support emotional processing. Breathwork is often woven into sessions as a grounding and self-regulation tool, helping clients build skills they can use between sessions.
Additional Approaches
Depending on your needs and goals, Dr. Xiques-Prieto may also draw on the following evidence-based frameworks.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
A structured, goal-oriented approach that explores the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT helps clients identify unhelpful patterns and develop more adaptive ways of thinking and responding.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Practices that cultivate present-moment awareness and non-judgmental attention. Mindfulness-based approaches can reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and support overall well-being.
Psychodynamic Therapy
An exploratory approach that examines how past experiences, relationships, and unconscious patterns shape current thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Psychodynamic work supports deeper self-understanding and lasting change.
Somatic Therapy
A body-centered approach that recognizes the connection between physical sensations and emotional experience. Somatic methods help clients tune into bodily cues as part of the healing process.
Therapeutic approaches are selected collaboratively based on each client's unique needs, history, and goals. No outcome is guaranteed. The methods described here reflect general information about these modalities; their application varies by individual.
