Areas of Care

What We Work On Together

Every person carries a unique story. Dr. Xiques-Prieto offers compassionate, evidence-based care across a range of concerns — in English and Spanish.

Trauma & PTSD

Trauma can reshape how we see ourselves and the world. Whether from a single event or years of accumulated stress, its effects are real — and healing is possible.

Dr. Xiques-Prieto specializes in trauma-informed care for individuals who have experienced abuse, accidents, loss, violence, or other overwhelming events. She understands that trauma is not a sign of weakness — it is the nervous system's response to experiences that exceeded its capacity to cope.

Using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), somatic approaches, and other evidence-based methods, she works with clients to process traumatic memories and reduce their hold on daily life — at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

Anxiety

Anxiety can show up as constant worry, physical tension, panic, or a persistent sense that something is wrong. It is one of the most common — and most treatable — concerns in therapy.

Whether you experience generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, or worry that feels impossible to turn off, Dr. Xiques-Prieto offers a calm, structured space to understand what is driving your anxiety and develop practical tools to manage it.

Her integrative approach combines cognitive behavioral techniques, breathwork, mindfulness, and somatic awareness to help clients build a more grounded, regulated relationship with their nervous system.

Depression

Depression is more than sadness. It can drain energy, distort thinking, and make even small tasks feel impossible. With the right support, it does not have to stay that way.

Dr. Xiques-Prieto works with individuals experiencing mild to significant depression, including persistent low mood, loss of interest, fatigue, and feelings of hopelessness. She approaches depression with curiosity — exploring its roots rather than simply managing its symptoms.

Treatment may draw on psychodynamic exploration, behavioral activation, mindfulness, and somatic work, tailored to each person's history and what resonates for them.

Life Transitions

Major changes — even positive ones — can unsettle our sense of identity and direction. Therapy can be a steady anchor during times of significant transition.

Dr. Xiques-Prieto supports clients navigating career changes, relationship shifts, divorce, parenthood, loss, immigration, retirement, and other turning points that challenge who we are and who we are becoming.

Her work in this area is exploratory and forward-looking — helping clients grieve what has changed, clarify their values, and build a sense of agency in shaping what comes next.

Relationships & Family

Our closest relationships are often where our deepest wounds — and our greatest capacity for healing — live. Therapy can help individuals, couples, and families find their way back to each other.

Dr. Xiques-Prieto works with individuals processing relationship patterns, couples navigating conflict or disconnection, and families working through communication challenges, grief, or significant change.

She brings cultural sensitivity and a bilingual perspective to this work, recognizing that family dynamics are shaped by culture, history, and the stories we inherit as much as the ones we create.

Immigration Evaluations

With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Xiques-Prieto provides comprehensive psychological evaluations to support immigration cases — conducted with cultural competence and care.

Dr. Xiques-Prieto has extensive experience conducting psychological evaluations for immigration purposes, including hardship evaluations, asylum evaluations, and evaluations related to VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) petitions and U-Visa applications.

These evaluations are conducted in English or Spanish and are prepared in accordance with legal and professional standards. Dr. Xiques-Prieto understands the weight of these processes and approaches each evaluation with thoroughness, compassion, and respect for the individual's story.
